Research Centre for Protection and Development of Mountain Areas of the University of Agriculture in Krakow is an interdepartmental unit directly subordinate to the Rector of the University. The Centre is managed by a Programme board, whose members are representatives of 7 University Faculties. The Centre was established to provide complex support to sustainable development of mountain areas and create conditions for efficient
commercialization of research and development project results. The main objective of Research Centre for Protection and Development of Mountain Areas is realization, orientation and coordination of research aimed at creating conditions of sustainable development of mountain areas.
The research conducted by the Research Centre for Protection and Development of Mountain Areas makes possible, among others determining the causes and mechanisms of degradation of resources in the mountain areas and uncontrolled changes of use and management of these areas, but also the sources of area conflicts and environmental hazards. The Centre activities will make possible studying the changes in socio-economic and environmental relations in mountain areas and prospective increasing productive-economic potential of mountain areas.
The research results will provide a basis to develop methods and procedures aimed at removing disadvantageous geomorphological changes, degradation of water resources, pollution of water environment, soils and air. They make possible creating appropriate agroeconomic, organizational and legal and cultural instruments conditioning sustainable development of mountain areas.
